kyu7An emotional connection of color has resonated since the days of elementary school. A teacher wanted you to present your name, possibly what you want to be when you grew up and what your favorite color was. Whether it is a standardized hue of red or an abstract magenta, there is something that attracts you to these shades. For example red is associated with love, desire, and rage. Whereas magenta represents harmony, being optimistic and happiness. Understanding the emotional response is huge for fashion designers in the process of correlating their up and coming collections. Kesi Gibson is no different, she strategizes her collections heavily on color and has a keen knowledge of diversity. She studies language, religion, cuisine, social habits and surroundings in her nomad journey.

The culturally driven fashion line is known as KYU MELANGE.  Raw materials from her travels are the root of her luxury products. She carefully picks the best to make her vision come alive. Last week I got the pleasure of attending Kesi’s “Art of Color & Fusion” presale showcase. I fell in love with her fashion label at first sight. The prints, patterns and especially the mix of colors made me feel like a kid in the candy store. I first stopped by the table layered with leather detailed bowties (the bowties retail: $65 for NYFW only). Each one stood out on its own with different textures. At a visual standpoint the size of the bowties are larger than average. I automatically assumed it was a men’s only item. Then I glanced over and saw the designer wearing a platinum version herself. She explained how it was adjustable and unisex.kyu2

I kept on asking about the different products in her collection which included clutches, book bags, messenger bags, duffle bags, totes, wallets, and cuffs. Personally, I’m not a big fan of bookbags, but her version made me drool. The box-shaped beauties retailed for $375 (NYFW only). Kesi talked about how each piece was inspired by various places she visited. She painted such a beautiful vision I wanted her to pack me in her luggage on her next voyage to India, Middle East, and Asia. A girl can only dream.

  1. Color does resonate with the soul! I am adverse to red but am drawn to pinks and corals. Those book bags are beautiful!

  2. tthose bags are intense! I definitely am not a fashionable person, but I bet there are tons of people who LOVE those bags with their bright colors
