Life is a mix of cloudy moments, we as women try to grain them like sugar and we create Lemonade!

IMG_4353We don’t give ourselves enough credit; we work ourselves to the core. I believe all women can agree, giving ourselves a break always seems unrealistic. So when I decided to be finally a lazy bum for a day, it was hard to make good on an idea of having an unproductive day. There I was trying to commit, cuddled with my comforter catching up on episodes of EMPIRE. ( Sadly that’s how far behind I am on any tv show.) In between episodes, I found myself checking on 756 emails, solely not to miss out on a business opportunity. I have a problem with a running mind; it never stops thinking about work. I had to say out loud to STOP. I even took a step further into committing to the lazy day by canceling on a scheduled yoga session. I continued to stay true to letting myself unwind for once and tune into the visual album “LEMONADE” by Beyonce.

I’m not sure if you got a chance to see this artistical phenomenon, the visual album was incredibly moving on so many levels. Whether you can relate or not to the message she delivered in the short film, personally I appreciate that an artist can endow to others many controversial factors of her life. What makes her a strong force in the music industry by showcasing her roots her faults and desires of what she will like to see in the world and herself.

I was so inspired an hour later I dotted my face similar to a scene in the short film. It reminded me of my family members and I dressing up in an ode to our ancestors dancing to the Bomba. A traditional folklore dance of Puerto Rico. It represents a mixture of the three different cultures of the Island, the Spanish, African and Taino Indian. Although I’m not excited to see cultural face painting as a”fashion trend.” I do embrace the meaning of knowing your roots and being proud of it. Along with painting my face I focused on the yellow hue. As I mentioned before, life is a mix of cloudy moments, we as women try to grain them like sugar, and we create Lemonade. I’m from two parts of Puerto Rico. My mother is from San Lorenzo, and my father is from Guyama. Along the side of the red, white and blue flag, Each town in Puerto Rico has their individual Flag, which represents it. In Guyama, there is a yellow strip in the middle emphasizing the economic profit generated from sugar cane.

“Lemonade” took me to a place of nostalgia, it reminded me of where I came from, where I am today and the powerful woman I am becoming. This visual album will serve as a tool to inspire and empower women of all ages and backgrounds. From wardrobe to concept and the use of yellow,  a color that signifies enlightenment and creativity.

See how I styled a jumpsuit with three different yellow tops in honor of Lemonade!

  1. I thought that the visual album was amazing and I liked your thoughts on it. I think it’s so cool that you are connecting to your culture and thanks for that bit about the Bomba, I didn’t know that! Also, love that jumpsuit!

  2. I like the outfit with the jacket- I love the colors together too :)! I look so funny in the one piece suits, but you pull it off so beautifully!

  3. The floral is giving me life! I, Mich like you, constantly have a running mind about work. Apparently it’s a trait of my Zodiac sign, but I just think it’s a trait of a hustler.

    1. Thank you is one of my favorite tops for the warmer weather due to the breathable fabric and the colors.I WONDER what your zodiac sign.I agree with you #husterlife lol
