I’ve been gravitating towards the practice of self-awareness including yoga, meditation, and light therapy. Studying the spiritual belief for about two years, I’ve seen such a  positive difference in myself that motivates me to wake up every morning. I’ve stopped thinking negatively, found joy in the smallest things, and been in tune with reaching goals that I thought was impossible to achieve.Overall the outlook of my life has become more balanced.

In addition to the practice of chakra and my addiction to fashion, I’d replace my jewelry aesthetic and started purchasing items that intertwine with spiritual symbolism.Symbols found in jewelry exhibits their visual diversity as well as their endless number of interpretations.My two recent purchase consists of one of the most common symbols in jewelry, a feather, and the evil eye.

A feather has multiple meanings.Usually linked to a favorable prognostic it represents veracity, love, a protector of evil and new beginnings.

The symbolism of a feather depends on which bird the feather is detached from. The bird is a spirit guide that helps people understanding the differing stages of life.

The evil eye or as my mom will say in Spanish, “mala ojo”  is one of the most known images in history.Despite the differences in various cultures that contribute to the story of the evil eye, it clings to the same message. In its most basic form, the evil eye logic is the look given to command suffering or some bad luck on those that it is cast on. It is a glare recognized for something dreadful to happen to the object of one’s focal point.

The original evidence of the belief in the evil eye goes back to ancient Greece and Rome. In Greece and Rome, the folktale is the evil eye was the greatest threat to anyone who idolizes too much or received recognition beyond what they deserved. The person would become so inflamed with pride that they would bring their tragedy via the evil eye, which was believed to be able to cause physical and mental illness.

I first learned about the evil eye when I was living in South Florida – many of my latina friends wore it and I learned it was the same concept as how us Italians wear the bull horn!     1. Good luck to your journey as well. Our background shares a lot of the same values and spiritual beliefs. Is sad to admit I still haven’t visited Florida but it is my goal to visit before the year ends.

    1. When I was young I begged my mom to live in Egypt.I always was fascinated by the culture.How is it staying there? I bet they take the evil eye serious.

      1. Wow, I never knew there were so many meanings for feathers.The only one I grew up learning about is if you find a feather hold it close your eyes make a wish and blow it off your hand for good luck.
