Who else feels as if they’re about to cry because summer is coming to an end? If you feel the same way throw two fingers in the air and say peace out to the long work week, and wave hello to the weekend vibes. To help enjoy the last few weeks of summer, I teamed up with Alice Mae Thomas of Snatched Boutique. We curated a style session to help guide you on what to wear.
Friday’s Silent Disco Party
Have you ever walked up to a DJ at a party and they refuse to play your song? You think the disc jockey is lame and you never want to go back to that establishment again. A few minutes later, the same type of music continues to play and you start questioning your taste. It’s time to try a different party where you don’t have to bother the careless DJ, and your type of music plays all night long. This is called a silent party! A quiet party might sound as if it’s the worst idea ever, but the experience is definitely worth trying. The party, also known as a silent disco, is where you wear a pair of colorful wireless headphones and can belt out the lyrics to your favorite song without anyone judging you.
The set up of the music is usually split up within three stations. The first is pop/electric dance music, the second is hip-hop/reggae, and the third one is rock. You have the option to switch up the channels whenever you like, or stick to one. The choice is all yours!
A bonus is if you want to chat with your friends or order drinks at the bar, you don’t have to scream over a loud thumping sound system and can save losing your voice.
What to wear to a silent disco?
Keep your outfit festive! You don’t go to this kind of party every night so do something different and glam it up a bit. An oversized multi-color sequin dress is not only comfortable, but its reflective glow in the dark atmosphere is a sight to see. You won’t need any accessories, other than a pair of hoop earrings and a set of pumps with the hot pink tying up the ensemble to perfection.
Saturday’s Boozy Brunch
Who doesn’t like one or two hours of unlimited mimosas? My favorite place to have a boozy brunch is a super affordable restaurant in Queens, New York called Aged. I usually go for a platter involving steak with homemade sauce, cast irons potatoes and organic sunny side up eggs with a bistro salad. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Wondering what to wear to bottomless mimosas brunch? I made a checklist that will help you prepare for the occasion.
Saturday’s Night Drag Queen Show
If you don’t want the fun to stop at brunch with the girls, you can continue the giggles with a drag queen show. The dress code for attending a show is not strict as an NYC exclusive nightclub. However, I always feel ecstatic to step up to the wow factor when I attend to one.
Many drag shows feature multitalented entertainers. Typically you will see a drag singing the high notes like Mariah Carey or lip-synching.The lip-synching is similar to a scene of the infamous reality television show:Rupaul’s Drag Race.Either way you will want to sing along .In addition to singing you will find your self laughing hours on end at their comedic jokes and snapping your fingers to their amazing dance moves.
The deep plunge neck jumpsuit you wore to brunch is an easy transition from day to night. Also, admit it where else you would get away with wearing a backless jumpsuit.
Sunday’s Picnic and a Movie
This year was my first time going to an outdoor screening and I can’t believe I didn’t know about NYC’s Summer Free Outdoor Screening sooner. In parks all across NYC everyday of the week there a free moving screening where you can plop your blanket and enjoy snacks with fellow New Yorkers.I have to admit is better than a NetFlix binge and is a perfect way to relax.Give an outdoor screening a try before the season truly ends.
A picnic is more of a casual setting. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean you have to stop being your stylish self while eating sandwiches and quenching your thirst with pink lemondade. A pair of light wash ripped denim shorts, and a seasonally colored aysmmetrical top is a great efortless outfit for this outing.
