Mermaid hair trend is not going out of style anytime soon. The launch of Garnier latest dye at home boxes are here to prove it.  Garnier COLOR SENSATION collection carries along the basics such as black, blondes and reds. Then they have made you look twice, vibrant colors. The mermaid colors include different shades of blue, pink and purple. I previously highlighted my hair blue, and I always wanted to dye my hair extensions to match. With my nerves all out of wack, I decided to be a daredevil and give it a go.

I believe it was the perfecting timing to try this new collection since the blue in my hair was fading. I selected “Out of The Blue” from the new collection, and when it arrived, I was stoked. As soon as I was ready to dye my hair I panicked. I rang my roommate, Carolina and told her, please help me for I feared I will burn my extensions. We all know human hair weave extensions are not cheap, so you understand my fear. I have more trust in her because she went bleach blonde years before and we have similar hair texture, which is extremely hard to do without your hair completely falling out.

Once my roommate came to my rescue we open up the Garnier COLOR SENSATION box and check what it came with inside. It came with a developer, colorant cream, after color conditioner, hair coloring brush and gloves. I believe I was all set however due to the fact the weave extension is a medium black bleaching it first is necessary if I want any color to show. Carolina advises mixing a powder lightener with a creme developer first in a dye bowl first.

Before I mixed the bleaching ingredients, I made sure to wear an old black t-shirt. When bleaching is always good to make sure to wear a shirt you don’t care about getting a stain. Also, make sure to wear gloves because the chemicals from the bleach will burn like hell if you don’t. After I mix the ingredients for the bleach, I place a towel underneath the weave extensions to not make a mess on my kitchen island. Using the easy precision brush that came inside the Garnier COLOR SENSATION box. I stroke the brush across the weave extensions in a dip dye way.

I let the bleach sit for no longer than 15 min due to the fact is not my natural hair it can shed easily. After the bleaching is done, I made sure to shampoo and rinse. To make sure the blue dye will take on my weave extensions Carolina said not only does it have to be bleach we have to make sure is dry to. I grab my flat iron and set it to 340 degrees. Anything higher than 340 degrees and my weave will disappear like a magician. The weave texture I use the dye on is curly, to make sure I don’t lose the texture I flat iron the hair quickly.

After making sure each hairpiece is dry it is time for the mermaid hair color. I use the same precision brush for the blue dye, of course making sure it was clean from the bleach. I used the color on top of the bleach and waited for about 18 minutes.  However, the box suggested 25 minutes, then again I wasn’t dying my natural hair.  Once the time was up, I use the after color conditioner that came in the box. A bonus about the conditioner it has a special ingredient: Rose Oil. The benefit of the rose oil for the hair it helps strengthen the hair. This is an excellent attribute because hair always becomes weak after dying. If you want to see, the whole hair dying process click on the video below!
