Summer officially starts on June 21st, however, it feels like it’s already here in NYC. With the hot weather, that means for me to try and get the chance to dip in the pool. Or catch some rays laying on the sand. In reality, it sounds great until I start filling up my vanity with waterproof makeup. I try to use the waterproof makeup to cover up my hasty dark spots. I’ve had these annoying dark spots as long as I can remember. Although I don’t have as many dark spots as I did growing up, they still exist.
Trying to steer away from waterproof makeup, I decided to treat my acne scars with Neostrata’s enlighten set. Unlike usual acne treatment sets, there are only three products. There not a hard time to try to remember what step you need to take to treat the scars. The collection includes an Enlighten Skin Brightener Cleanser. The cleanser also doubles up as a sunblock because SPH 25 is added. For any summer skincare regimen, I believe a sunscreen in a skincare treatment is a requirement. The set also includes an Enlighten Illuminating Serum and an Enlighten Pigment Controller.
Of course in any skincare treatment, the first step is to cleanse the skin of any impurities. The cleanser is a creamy base and not harsh at all on my skin. I’m used to foam cleansers since it’s oil-free, so I was a bit skeptical at first. Then I relax once I started to see the changes on my face. The main ingredients in this particular cleanser include NeoGlucosamine and Alpine Plant Extracts. If you’re thinking, “what in the world does that mean and how does it benefit from my skin.” I thought the same thing to so I did a bit of research. NeoGlucosamine is a nonacid amino sugar, and it exfoliates hyperpigmentation for an evener skin tone. Alpine Plant Extracts help brighten and clarify skin.
The Enlighten Illuminating Serum main ingredients include Licorice Extract, and Vitamin C. The benefits of Licorice Extract is anti-inflammatory. Inflammation is the body’s natural way to protect itself by expelling infection and irritants from the body. This particular extract helps fade dark spots over time. Vitamin C is excellent for many things, but in this case, it performs as a natural skin brightener.
Last but not least is the Pigment Controller. The main ingredients for the pigment controller are Retinol and Sabiwhite. Retinol is an acne fighting product. Whereas Sabiwhitesimilar to the Licorice Extract in the serum is anti-inflammatory and also works as a skin brightener like the Vitamin C. Look at my before and after results in the video below.
