Lately, I admit my wardrobe and the latest fashion trends is uninspiring. I’m defaulting to a typical New Yorker, wearing hobo-like sweaters and everything black. Boring! Usually, when all else fails, I turn to Netflix newly anticipated shows for style inspiration. The newest release “Always A Witch” inspire this burgundy velvet crop top.

“Always A Witch” is a refreshing take on what we have seen lately in the witch trend.  Such as Netflix remake of Sabrina and American Horry Story: Coven. The witches in those shows apparel tend to be dark. Including long shapeless dresses, loads of lace details, and goth-like makeup. Whereas “Always a Witch” takes place in Columbia and the apparel is an ode to the island colorful culture.

Carmen is the main character of the show. As a non-typical witch, she is not afraid to wear color; She is also not afraid to show some skin, whereas witches in the other shows are typical to layering. On the series, Carmen wears many crop tops. If she is not wearing a crop top, she ties the bottom of the shirt into a knot to show off her midriff. Now the days are warming up in New York; I could stay away from the oversize sweaters and dark hues and take a page out of Carmen book.

Wearing the velvet crop top is a mood changer once I put it on. It felt good not to wear so many heavy fabric and wear a color other than black. Not only do I admire the silhouette of the top, but I’m also crushing on the texture. I caught myself brushing the palm of my hands amongst the sleeves a few times because of how incredibly soft it is.

Usually, every time I try to wear velvet, I will feel overdress. However, the front drawstring and hoodie allow the fabric to be more wearable. The top can be casual, and if I ever want to dress it up, I can add a pair of pumps. I always was wary of wearing this texture other than the fall/winter time. Since the material of the velvet crop top is lightweight, I can wear it well into the summer. A blouse that is versatile is always welcome to my wardrobe.

You can purchase the velvet crop top from Dirty South VintageThe super comfortable top comes in five colors including this beautiful burgundy. The other colors are dusty purple, burnt olive, brownstone and of course black. The top retails for under twenty-five bucks, at that price I’m contemplating if I should get it in a second color.
I’ll ponder on if I should get the blouse in a second color over some popcorn. I’m only five episodes into the show so I will love to finish it. What Netflix shows are you into lately? I’m always looking for new shows, so feel free to comment.
