Many people are trying to care for others when they are not yet properly caring for themselves. You have got to remember that you are the person who is supposed to be looking out for you, not anyone else. Who is going to look out for you if you are constantly trying to help another person? Nobody is the answer to that question, and this can be detrimental to you. 

Your Mental Health

The first thing that we are going to look at is your mental health. Unfortunately, mental health is still not something that is widely discussed or accepted in the public forum. The problem with this is that it makes people ashamed and embarrassed to talk about these things. There is nothing wrong with struggling sometimes, and there is nothing wrong with needing help. We understand that this might be one reason you are so keen to offer help to others, but you need to make sure that you are asking for any help you need.

It’s important to notice the signs of your mental health becoming a problem. Becoming isolated, losing interest in the things you love, and so on are all common signs. Keep an eye out for them in yourself, as sometimes you don’t notice until way down the line if you’re not looking.

Your Physical Health

Your physical health is just as important as your mental health. However, there is more to your physical health than just exercise and eating right. Of course, these things are important, but they are not the be-all and end all of your physical health. You should also make sure that you are looking after things such as your mouth, where a dentist can help if you need one. 

I also recommend that you think about what you are putting into your body in terms of liquids. Ideally, you don’t want to be consuming too much alcohol or drinks that have a massively high sugar level. This will only serve to make you feel worse if you are already feeling down because you’re not giving your body what it needs. Of course, these things in moderation are wonderful, but as a general rule, if you’re feeling thirsty, drink some water. If you’re not thirsty enough to drink water, then you are probably fine.
