Brujeria, which in English means witchcraft, was taught to me in high school with a book. The teacher assigned “The Crucible” written by Arthur Miller in high school. The purpose of the book is to educate the class about the horrific history of The Salem Witch Trials and the beginnings of structured religion. The tone of the book described an era of fear among the witches, painting a dark and dreary image. Now fast forward to the present, my fellow Latinx millennials and I are digging through family history. While digging through family history we are figuring out aspects of witchcraft that is left out of the book. For many people of color, there is a positive impact in the practice of Brujeria while rediscovering our roots. Continue reading
Being bohemian is more than just a look, is a way of life. Although I don’t dress in the typically patterned maxi dresses, wearing a flower crown on a daily basis, I do believe in the lifestyle.A bohemian is known to indulge most of their time expressing themselves in an artistic way. An artistic way can be painting, writing or music, creating is the forte. Another belief to this lifestyle is living like a nomad. If you’re a traveling nomad like the song Gyspy Woman sung by Crystal Waters or living in the moment, it ends with the same result. You try to live a life without stress, and you take it day by day.
When it comes to dressing bohemian, a real boho girl wouldn’t care about what anyone thinks. She usually wears whatever she wants. However, the fashion world painted a picture for what boho fashion is in a general sense. Continue reading
I struggled with my hair ever since I was a toddler. I’ve researched different trends to help efficiently manage my hair. Coconut oil kept popping up in the Google search feed.As I decided to try the Coconut oil trend, something magical happened a couple of weeks ago. I received a survey about my hair from Influenster. It felt as Influenster was reading my mind and knew about my hair struggles. Answering the survey honestly, I wrote out the issues I had with my hair. A few weeks later I received a complimentary box filled with L’oreal Ever Curl products.

If you’re a balling on a budget New York City resident, then HONEY, we have a lot in common. This past summer I acted like I was a teenager living underneath my mother roof. I was tapping into my savings to stay up with the latest events. I’ll admit I had a case of F.O.M.O. (fear of missing out).Fast forward to winter I found myself staying in more than usual just to save money and make ends meet.
The moment foodies wait for all year is finally here! I’m excited to get into my lace maxi dress, paired with velvet thigh-high boots and be welcome with a full plate of food. Before prepping to binge-eat a turkey, in the beginning of November I had what I would like to call a case of holiday dress stress .As I struck gold on the search for a lace maxi dress, I bumped into a problem. My beautiful lace maxi dress had a deep plunge.Usually, I would wear a silicone bra cutlet, and that will help solve my issue. On the other hand, every time I wore a silicone bra cutlet it will become nonsticky. Imagining myself in a house full of people and making a complete fool of myself, I refused to wear a silicone bra cutlet. Continue reading
Last week I hung out with my cousin who was biting her nails, fussing about prom. She has been fussing about it since the first day she attended school this year.I told her the best time to start shopping for her dress is in January. She looked at me and told me she doesn’t want to commit until March since prom is in May! I explained to her it’s best to start sooner than later when it comes to shopping for a dress that seems red carpet worthy. Then she began to cry what if I don’t find anything that will fit? I responded remember the “Twilight” book/movie craze? She replied, of course, I remember, I was a middle schooler, it wasn’t that long ago! I chuckled, and after agreed with my cousin it wasn’t that long ago. Continue reading
In 2012 I was a senior in Laboratory Institute of Merchandising ( a fashion college located in Manhattan) with a couple of weeks left before I graduated. One of the classes required was emphasizing my internship experience and guiding me on how to successfully land a job in my field after graduation. My professor at the time Susan Kavy pulled each student to the side to give us advice on planning after college. When it came to my turn Ms. Kavy crushed my dreams of being a fashion editor for a magazine’s. MS. Kavy called out my bad grammar and even had the audacity to ask if English was my first language. I swore my jaw drop like the genie in the Disney movie film, “Aladdin.” After what felt like a punch to the chest, she told me there are various positions in the fashion industry, and I had great internship experience. Ms.Kavy suggested I should pursue my career in the internships I’ve done while attending L.I.M. college. The internships I had experience in were product development and wholesale.
It’s that time of year again where we feel a crisp breeze in the air.Due to the shift in temperature and moisture, the leaves start to change. The leaves during this time of year, become more brittle while turning into shades of golden brown and burnt orange. As your heart is set on jumping up and down crunching leaves on the floor, embracing the Autumn weather, don’t forget the season wardrobe change. I teamed up with makeup artist Andrea Black (also known as the beaute joint) to discuss a few of the fashion and beauty trends of Fall 2016 I’m sure you will be enchanted with.
