This past weekend I took a long train ride to Brooklyners favorite beach, Coney Island. The hour and seventeen minutes are worth it when you’re visiting the Mermaid Parade for the first time. Looking at the beautiful painted faces and bodies covered with glitter gave me nostalgia. I hid underneath a fellow show watcher’s umbrella, hoping it won’t rain all day. Luckily for me, the sun rays shine shortly after, and I got to join the parade without any more rain drops. As much as I begged for Mr.sunshine to stretch out his rays, I felt my mermaid makeup melting. I placed my hand in my purse and searched for the only product I trust to keep my face fresh. Shortly after, I saw a pink and white aerosol bottle and scream YES what will I do without Evian Spray.

Brujeria, which in English means witchcraft, was taught to me in high school with a book. The teacher assigned “The Crucible” written by Arthur Miller in high school. The purpose of the book is to educate the class about the horrific history of The Salem Witch Trials and the beginnings of structured religion. The tone of the book described an era of fear among the witches, painting a dark and dreary image. Now fast forward to the present, my fellow Latinx millennials and I are digging through family history. While digging through family history we are figuring out aspects of witchcraft that is left out of the book. For many people of color, there is a positive impact in the practice of Brujeria while rediscovering our roots. Continue reading
You can see the ombre trend, EVERYWHERE these days! From hair styles, nail art, apparel and in bedding. Is actually hard to not bypass the ombre trend. If you want to get technical, an ombre is simply two contrasting colors that evolve dark to light or light to dark.
Usually, an ombre lip is used to create the appearance of fuller lips without the cost of surgery. If you naturally have full lips like “moi”, don’t panic! You can still rock this look. The main beauty product to create the lip ombre is a lip pencil. Once you discover which lip pencil to use the next step is to figure out what lipstick color compliments the lip pencil. You can use a hue that will match your outfit or a neutral tone that will match anything you wear.
We all know financially men make more than women, although withholding the same place in a corporate setting. The unfortunate fact was drilled into my head when my former high school professor educated me. Gazing through the printout in front of me, at the harsh men vs. women statistics, it boiled my blood. I could not come to terms with the fact not only women are expected to do everything, at the end of the day we will just make less than our male coworker.
Given the facts of a sexist commercial work structure, many women drift off and decide to start their own business. Many women including myself have found ways to balance their jobs and personal lives seamlessly, remain high in the face of incredible challenges, and compete against even the toughest competitors.
For me to get in a holiday dancing spirit, I played “Sleigh Ride” by TLC. After belting out the lyrics,
Just hear those sleigh bells jing-a-ling
It’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you
Outside the snow is fallin
And friends are calling you
I was pumped to go to my friend holiday party. For my holiday party makeup look, I decided to use GA-DE Cosmetics Fall 2016 collection for the reason of the perfect elements it has to create the holiday makeup go to look, the smokey eye.The selection included a basic matte eyeshadow palette with a range of warm earth tones mix with festive gray hues.First I used the lightest color in the kit on my eyelids. Then I worked the chocolate shadow into the light color and slightly above the lid creases. After that, I use the gray/black shade a little past the outer corner of the lids.I use the caramel tone eyeshadow to outline my bottom eyelashes to make my eyes pop.To blend the colors together, I used the second lightest shade and patted my eyelids repeatedly until each color looked like it was tied together.
Fumbling to put on my false eyelashes was due to my excitement with a hint of stress.I was super excited to attend my first Beautycon. However, the hint of fear kicked in when I realized I’m running almost three hours late.I was practicing my breathing exercises I learn through a yoga workshop to help relief my stress. The breathing exercise surprisingly was working while I finally aced putting the false eyelashes on my eyelids.I did not want to go to a beauty event without a full face makeup look; It may seem overdramatic, but I felt it was necessary for me to go made up.Other than practicing my breathing exercises requesting an Uber ride eliminated my stress of FOM (fear of missing out.)Before I knew it, I was well on my way to my first Beauty Con.

Do you have a hidden treasure in your wardrobe? That special something you’ve been dying to wear. What happens every time you try to wear that “special something”? Do you get frustrated because you can’t think of what could go with it? That my dear is a fashion block; the condition of being unable to think of what to wear or proceed with styling. The same situation happens to me every time I tried on an original 80’s leather jacket handed down from my mother. Then one day I decided to go for it and not over think my outfit. Viola! It worked my fashion block came to end by sticking to the totally radical 80’s decade. Hopefully, I didn’t disappoint you, and this is not a styling tribute to the Flash Dance movie. (maybe next time)
