12027602_1168596179821567_8218250476122925086_nEVER wondered what is your sole purpose in life? Are you doing what you love? Oh, WORK in one native tongue that might even be considered a curse word. Then again working doesn’t have to be such a bad thing if you love it. What am I talking about Work = Love. Your probably asking me right now How does that make sense? It does if you choose to.

12046700_1168596229821562_4604679305885090553_nI’m not telling you to give up your day job (or night job) to pursue what is you want to do because I understand the economic times are always going up and down. Take some time and think about what you love instead of what you want to do in life. Even if is playing video games, shopping, watching television, yoga or even blogging. Now think about doing it professionally. For example growing up I was a modern dancer. Dancing took up my whole world. I decided that what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Life told me to guess again! Hospitals and injuries came to me more naturally.I had an intense feeling; my doctor was becoming my >best friend< (yikes) I started reevaluating what I wanted to do as a career. I got my first job (at 16 or 17) working for a boutique, and I loved it no I loved it so much I became fashion obsess. Learning everything styling, trends even women’s shapes sizes, I was having customers coming up to me asking me to style them for future events. I quickly switch my career goals. Proudly saying I graduated (2years ago) and I’m still working in the fashion industry. I also teach blogging classes on and off at a Union Center. Why am I putting more work on my plate simply not only is because NYC is so expensive to live in the real reason is I’m genuinely passionate about it. Once you start doing things you adore it will start feeling more like a hobby than an actual job. How is this possible well let me ask you do you consider yourself as a girl boss (or a boy boss)?

Whatever your answer might be (hopefully is a yes) you have to read an inspirational story from the creator of Nasty Girl, Sophia Amuroso.

#GirlBoss Review

Sophia Amoroso never felt like she belongs, seriously she tried. Schoolwork even the decade she was living in, she felt like an outcast. In school, she got into so much trouble by the fourth grade her Teacher diagnosed her with ADD and Tourette’s syndrome. Fast forward to high school they added depression to the package. After this, she gave up the towel and tried home school.

She worked numerous jobs.Seriously, she listed each and every one of them. It’s insane how different they are, and I wonder how a manager kept hiring someone who quit so much. On a lighter note, she explained how each job cultivated the skills she learn to use.The skills used to become this amazing sought out leader she is today.

A leader with a past she owns up to it. She discussed how she used to steal clothes and lived in a closet to get by. She described how it all started, selling stolen goods online. Reality struck when she got a hernia, so she got a job for health insurance. The job was an id checker for a school. With a lot of downtime on her hands, she discovered EBay. That is how Nasty Gal was born, and she taught herself the tricks of the trade. She quickly learned that not only was she selling the right goods she taught herself how to market her brand. Quitting after a hernia was taken care of and continues with her business. This time, she wasn’t selling stolen goods, not only at this point she was making enough to afford the stolen goods, but was also caught stealing (she gave everything back).

Her sad bunny phase consisted of her drinking Starbucks in a robe glued to her computer.Becoming a master of EBay for Dummies was not a 9-5 job more like 24-7. Her vintage items were selling out and selling out fast. She became so devoted to eBay, took its devotion to step up from the competition. She decided she wanted models that look like the customers she wanted to sell her clothing to “the cool girls.” I admire her willpower and dedication because not only did she get the models to shoot for free (she paid them in hamburgers) she went out and did more. She needed a photographer and not just any photographer. Sophia built such a reputable name in the EBay industry it was unbelievable when she grew the courage to call a photographer that was respected. When she ask him to work with her, he already knew who she was. Talk about free marketing. She created looks for women who didn’t know how to wear the vintage clothes she was selling. She mastered her craftsmanship and eventually closed down eBay and open up shop. Unfortunately, you don’t get to keep the customers from eBay. Sophia thought so far ahead of her game she captured her customers through Facebook. She went on an adding spree and built her clientele. She was the founder, buyer, copywriter, merchandiser, and customer service all at once and she started with one sales girl. Few chapters later (I don’t want to spoil everything) she is one of the youngest richest CEO. Remember the Sales girl? She is multiplied.

Her story wasn’t only authentic she featured similar females with the same work esthetic. The little excerpts in each chapter consisted of different women, who sought out after their dreams. The excerpts were 1 to 3 pages on how they started and a quick description of their journey and ended with an inspirational quote. The quotes are what sunk me in.The excerpts were just a taste of sayings; inspirational quotes was written throughout the whole book. I typed it down in the notes section of my iPhone, intending to post it as social media updates.Just a social media update, only partially correct is also for me not to give up perfecting my craft. Even as a graduate I continue learning and just because I have some experience in teaching doesn’t mean I stop being a student.

Overall Sophia is charismatic and witty. Towards the end of the book, it gets insightful, and she gives a lot of great advice to even how to get the job you want. A great quick read I highly recommend it.

Remember to perfect your craft every day and don’t stop perfecting it.

If  you want to meet her Tuesday the day:P
