I’m a guilty person who splurges when it comes to pretty notebooks. I use it for planning, journaling, writing affirmations, and everything in between. Now that my books are piling up and I’m running out of pages to write, I’ve been looking for an affordable vintage-style notebook. I want the vintage style predominantly to write my spells, rituals, and intentions. The name of this notebook is usually a witch’s journal or book of shadows. I finally found the perfect book of shadows from Wanderings.
A book of shadows comes in many different styles nowadays. However, the most common style is antique leather. The journal I came across from Wanderings arrived in a brand dustbag tied with a wooden tassel. The particular journal I have is 5X7 inches. The paper quality is amazing, and one can tell that so much work went into it. Each page is handmade with recycled cotton. Not only is it made of recycled cotton the pages have more benefits. It is tree-free, chemical free and acid-free. The pages are also bleedthrough fool-proof, just in case if your writing with a very ink-heavy pen. The total of magnificent pages is two hundred and forty.
I’m so happy with this book I had to show it off to my best friend. She then proceeds to educate me on the page direction of the book. The direction of the way the book opens is from ancient times. In the middle east, they write from right to left. As you turn each age, you can see that it is going backward from turning the pages now in modern times.
The cover itself is distressed brown leather with a brassy gold key. The key shape itself is similar to a compass. The key helps tie the book together once your done writing. The side of the book design is a double-cross binding style that truly gives the vintage aesthetic. This is the book that I’ve been hunting for at multiple thrift shops but could never find. You might have a similar experience. I can’t wait to write about it. I even got a feather pen to make the perfect pairing with the book. As for now, I will put it in a sacred space, my altar.
