What’s up? I’ve been a vegetarian for three years. As a born and raised New Yorker, I almost missed my morning bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll. Many may know that is New Yorkers specializes in, second to our pizza slice!. But, all jokes aside, I tried a couple of plant-based bacon and have not been appeased what’s so ever. Not until Hooray came along, and now this New Yorker is happy again.

Hooray plant-based bacon is only from clean ingredients that are animal-free, nitrate-free, gluten-free, and soy-free. So it sounds like a win-win right. I had to put it to the test. I gather the essentials on my cutting board. First I slice the kaiser roll (also known as a vienna roll) in half. Then I read the back of Hooray Plant-Based package to make sure I was cooking it correctly. One of the first things I notice becoming vegetarian, the meat-like products have different cooking instructions.

Gladly I did because I learned unlike Pork bacon I don’t need to add oil or butter to the skillet. This plant based bacon in particular can be cooked as in in it’s on “fat”. It also cook faster than pork bacon so I made sure to keep my eyes on the bacon while it sizzles. I use my gas range oven and turn the knob to medium heat.  As I pulled apart the strips of  plant base bacon in the skillet and wait for it to cook. My nostril caught on to the aroma and to my disbelief it smelled like real bacon!

The aroma is so realistic that my nine month old frenchie came running into my kitchen pointing his nose into the air as to what is that delicious smell. I chuckled as I flip over the plant-based bacon into a plate once it became crispy.  Next I fry my brown cage-free omega 3 egg if your a vegan you can use a plant-based egg instead. Once the egg is cooked, I place it on the side of the plate and now to complete the sandwich.

In the same skillet I place one bun on it. Then I layer all ingredients and top it off with a plant based cheddar cheese. Now time for the first bite, it made me do a little happy dance. My partner stares at me and says well if the sandwich is that good is there one of me? I respond. “Of course” Now as I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for her to try the sandwich as she is the omnivore ( person that eats food of both plant and animal origin) of the household. Her eyes lit up and there I knew we had a winner. That is the story of how this New York fell in love with eating bacon egg and cheese all over again thanks to Hooray Foods.

With this plant-based bacon made with minimal ingredients you can enjoy your meal guilt-free. You can find it in a Whole Foods near you.
