As the world turned virtual, seeming overnight is a crucial time to educate ourselves more. Especially as a woman, it is riveting that we are still fighting for our rights in this day of age, hence the recent abortion ban as early as six weeks into pregnancy. As we are embracing the world in the future, it may seem as it is going backward, especially in the health communities. As a woman, our time is now to speak up on health issues that some shy away from or have no idea they may be suffering from, such as PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) and Endometriosis.

If you are not aware of PCOS and endometriosis, it can affect female reproduction and cause infertility. Although it seems similar, they are distinctly different. A problem with hormones causes PCOS, and endometriosis is caused by abnormal cell growth outside the uterus. It is also possible for someone to have both. For example, I suffer from PCOS,,, whereas my best friend Zoveyda suffers from both. As best friends, we are vocal about our health issues however some women put their health in the back burner.

To help speak up about these issues I interviewed Zoveyda while sipping on Teneral Cellars newest wine collection. The latest collection Healthy Women, Healthy World, is a case of three wines representing women’s health issues. Each bottle has a logo dedicated to a woman heath issue. For every three pack sold, ten dollars is donated to The Endometriosis Foundation of AmericaTenerel Cellars always devote each of their collection for a cause and to be in the know, you can join an exclusive members only known as -The SWARM. The Interview

Me: When you was first diagnosed with PCOS what are some of the symptoms?

Zoveyda: My symptoms were gruesome cramps. I had my menstural for about four months. I would of visited my local gynoloisgist sooner however I assumed the bleeding will stop. Becoming severly depressed and scared because I never experienced anything like this before; I finally gave in and check and honestly the doctor had no idea what was wrong with me.

Me: I’m sorry to hear that, when did the actual diagnose took place?

Zoveyda: Well after the first appointment they put me on birthcontrol. Although it did stop the bleeding but I did gain a lot of weight. The gruesome cramps did not stop either. Finally after four appointments trying to figure out what is going on I’ve fainted and went to the emergency room. In the ER is when the doctor told me I have PCOS.

Me: That sounds horrible when they diagnose you how did the doctor explained it to you?

Zoveyda: The doctor explained I have a hormone imbalance and I have overgrown cells in my ovaries. Unfortnetuly PCOS has no cure. They switch me from birth control pills to an IUD and explain this can help treat it. Although I did not want to be on birth control because of all the side effects I was facing thy did explain to me the IUD they were giving me has lower estrogen levels to help balance it. The doctor also inform me if left untreated the cells can become cancerous.

Me: I understand as someone who suffers from PCOS too I had the doctor treat me similar but I couldn’t handle taking the IUD. How is your take on it.

Zoveyda: I wish I never took the IUD. After three years of taking it my menstrual cycle was more abnormal then before. Sometimes I get it months on end sometimes I don’t. My skin became super oily which is the opposite of my normal skin type causing severe acne. It also cause me to become use to having migranes more often. My final straw to remove my IUD is when I notice an inflammation on my vagina.I went to to the doctor and they told me those are all commonside effects.

Me: Instead of getting better it sounds like things got a lot worse. Hopefully a doctor can find a cure someday soon.

Zoveyda: Well it did get worse, the doctor explain my ovaries now look like raspberries and they were bursting. I got diagnose with endometriosis. The doctor explain there is a treatment however it will be another form of birthcontrol.

Me: I wasn’t aware you can have both PCOS and endometriosis.

Zoveyda: The doctor says it’s rare but as I speak to other women it seems more of a common issue. In the past I wouldn’t been so open to speak about it. But in this day of age I believe is crucial to speak up and make sure to get a regular check up.
