Practical Makeup Tips To Achieve Face Symmetry

If you are a makeup enthusiast, you probably know how important it is to create facial symmetry with contouring, shading, and highlighting. The truth is, everybody loves to have a symmetrical face because society seems to find it more attractive. Unfortunately, however, not everybody is fortunate to have it. A Wikipedia finding stated that only 2.0803% of the world’s population have symmetrical facial features. Fortunately, you can temporarily change this with a few makeup tricks, including the following.

  • Use light and dark lines to alter your eyelids’ shape.

While some people have no problems with their eyelids, others may feel pressured to hide the asymmetry of their eyes. Thankfully, with makeup, you can minimize the appearance of an imbalance in one or both eyelids. What you need are your makeup pencils in various shades. For instance, if you want to make your lids appear smaller, a matte taupe shadow liner can do the job efficiently. First, you will need to draw a light line slightly above the inner rim of the lids. After that, you can shade in with a dark-brown pencil to create the impression of smaller caps.

On the contrary, if you want to make your eyelids appear more significant, you will need some shimmery eye cream colors. First, apply the shimmer all over your eyelids, after which you have the option to use a nude-colored pencil to define the outer parts of both lids. Indeed, makeup can only do much, especially when you have one or two low-lying eyelids. In this case, you may need specially-formulated eyedrops to lift eyelids. After a period, you will notice a noticeable improvement that contributes to your facial symmetry. Even better, you may not need to spend as much time balancing it out with makeup.

  • Use colors to reduce the appearance of chin and jawline imbalance.

The jaw and chin areas tend to give away asymmetrical facial features easily. Weight gain and excessive weight loss can also make an imbalance more pronounced. However, you can change these. First of all, using slightly dark colors, draw the desired shape for your jawline and chin areas. This is known as highlighting in the makeup industry. Next, it is recommended to use a matte powder for a more natural effect when shading.

Furthermore, an angled powder brush makes it easier to do the blending and shading. Indeed, makeup experts can blend in with just about any other brush. However, if you are not too experienced in that regard, an angled powder brush will be your best tool. Usually, it is advisable to use shading powder slightly deeper than your skin tone. This technique is what helps to create a shadow effect, to hide any anomalies. Finally, as you complete the blending of the jaw and chin areas, do not forget to do a final touch to your hairline area to create balance.

  • Streamline the nose bridge

Undoubtedly, this has become one of the most widely used makeup techniques worldwide. Nose streamlining creates the appearance of a more petite and perky nose. Although this raises so much debate on what nose shape looks good, more people seem to opt for a symmetrical one. Once again, this can be achieved through proper highlighting and shadowing. To prevent people from noticing the slight off-center appearance of your nose, contour the side that appears fuller. This sets the foundation for blending in that side to match the less complete side of the nose. After shading in, you can finish it off with a slight shimmer down the center of the nose. This technique hides any asymmetry you may have on and around the nose.

  • Even out your cupid’s bow and fill it in.

The area on the face called the cupid’s bow refers to the peaks on your upper lip. Some people have a well-defined cupid’s bow, while others have theirs slightly off the center. Perhaps, this is the easiest makeup trick of all time. It involves using your ring finger and a tube of lipstick. Dab a bit of lipstick on this fingertip and ‘rubber stamp’ it on the center of the upper lip. Use a lip pencil to define the edges without smudging when that is done.

After that, you can apply your lipstick color of choice without exceeding the definition you made earlier. If lipstick is not your thing, your lip gloss can work just fine to produce the same symmetrical effect you desire. You have the option to reshape your cupid’s bow with a softer color to create a more natural and symmetric look.
