Brujeria Uprising Amongst Feminist Millennials: Rediscovering Latinx Roots

Brujeria, which in English means witchcraft, was taught to me in high school with a book. The teacher assigned “The Crucible” written by Arthur Miller in high school. The purpose of the book is to educate the class about the horrific history of The Salem Witch Trials and the beginnings of structured religion. The tone of the book described an era of fear among the witches, painting a dark and dreary image.  Now fast forward to the present, my fellow Latinx millennials and I are digging through family history. While digging through family history we are figuring out aspects of witchcraft that is left out of the book. For many people of color, there is a positive impact in the practice of Brujeria while rediscovering our roots. Continue reading

My Current Walk-In Closet Vs. My Fantasy Walk-In Closet Inspired by Arhaus

A small apartment renter with walk-in-closet dreams view my post to see MY CURRENT WALK-IN CLOSET VS. MY FANTASY WALK-IN CLOSET INSPIRED BY ARHAUS

“A small apartment renter with walk-in-closet dreams”, can explain who I was for a long time until a year ago. I found a listing on my modern Brooklyn apartment. It’s spacious compared to other city apartments, which are usually the size of someone’s kitchen. Space is not the only winning point of this apartment. The other winning point that made my jaw drop was when the broker showed me the closet. A walk-in! ( I screamed out of happiness inside). I signed the lease thirty minutes later, and as a clothes hoarder, I often pinch myself every time I open my closet. Currently in disbelief having this type of luxury in my life.

Women Entrepreneurs Continue To #LashLikeABoss in 2017

We all know financially men make more than women, although withholding the same place in a corporate setting. The unfortunate fact was drilled into my head when my former high school professor educated me. Gazing through the printout in front of me, at the harsh men vs. women statistics, it boiled my blood. I could not come to terms with the fact not only women are expected to do everything, at the end of the day we will just make less than our male coworker.

Given the facts of a sexist commercial work structure, many women drift off and decide to start their own business. Many women including myself have found ways to balance their jobs and personal lives seamlessly, remain high in the face of incredible challenges, and compete against even the toughest competitors.

Black Prom Dresses

oneyear

In 2012 I was a senior in Laboratory Institute of Merchandising ( a fashion college located in Manhattan) with a couple of weeks left before I graduated. One of the classes required was emphasizing my internship experience and guiding me on how to successfully land a job in my field after graduation. My professor at the time Susan Kavy pulled each student to the side to give us advice on planning after college. When it came to my turn Ms. Kavy crushed my dreams of being a fashion editor for a magazine’s. MS. Kavy called out my bad grammar and even had the audacity to ask if English was my first language. I swore my jaw drop like the genie in the Disney movie film, “Aladdin.” After what felt like a punch to the chest, she told me there are various positions in the fashion industry, and I had great internship experience. Ms.Kavy suggested I should pursue my career in the internships I’ve done while attending L.I.M. college. The internships I had experience in were product development and wholesale.

A Fashionista Guide to Spiritual Symbolism:A Feather and The Evil Eye

redlipmamiAs a newcomer to the understanding of chakras (chakras is a practice of belief of the spiritual power found in the human body, including the crown, third eye, throat, heart, navel, sacral, and root.) I’ve been gravitating towards the practice of self-awareness including yoga, meditation, and light therapy. Studying the spiritual belief for about two years, I’ve seen such a  positive difference in myself that motivates me to wake up every morning. I’ve stopped thinking negatively, found joy in the smallest things, and been in tune with reaching goals that I thought was impossible to achieve.Overall the outlook of my life has become more balanced.

Have you ever heard of the quote:“Beauty is how you feel on the inside, and it reflects in your eyes.” by Sophia Loren? If you have or not, women everywhere spend a large sum of money on cosmetics.Instead,  they can save money by focusing on their well-being. I’m not claiming you have to stop completely buying makeup, (I know I won’t) the ultimate beauty tool will help you not invest in your whole paycheck. The inner beauty is how you take care of yourself. You follow the ritual of taking the essential vitamins you need and drinking eight-ounce glasses of water a day. As a woman living in New York City, the place that never sleeps is also hard to get the recommended seven to nine hours of dream land.

Try Something New,Eat At The Best Hidden Restaurant in New York

Parlor - 72As my heels tapped around the concrete sidewalks of Manhattan, I finally arrived at Parlor. A caviar painted door stood before me as I checked my google maps to make sure it was the correct address.According to the red-orange pin, I was at the correct place, 286 Spring St, New York, NY 10013.

Immediately a tall man at the front desk greeted me after I pushed the door open.I told him I made a reservation for three and apologized for being late. (I have been fashionably late in my past few outings, I’m working on that!). The tall man told me a gentleman named Marcus will be with me shortly to show me to my seat. In the meantime, I sat in the lobby area where black and white photography and digital flames dancing inside a glass serenaded me.
