You know the fashion in the fashion industry, everything old tends to be new again. 90’s clothing always has a way to return to our wardrobes. I’m not complaining. I’ve always been a sucker for functional tie-dye apparel of some sort, and I still find myself going back to how classic the 90’s makeup trends were, not so complicated at all. Although the era did have the color extravaganza of blue eye shadow and burgundy lipstick and we can’t forget about the unforgettable glitter. I like the more toned down nude and browns palette. Let me put on my Bone Thugs and Harmony Hat and teach you a thing or two on how to apply 90’s makeup.

First thing first, I already wash my face with a cleanser. I use a toner afterward for an excellent smooth, clean base. You have to make your face the canvas before you go ahead and add layers of paint. After that, instead of using a face primer, I set my face with an organic moisturizer. Applying the moisturizer helps gives my skin a slight dewy glow. Once the skin skincare, I grab my brushes getting ready to create.
One step before, I use makeup brushes. I use a makeup concealer to help define my eyebrows. Then I smooth out the excess with a brush. Then I lightly filled the brows with a dark brown brow-shadow a. I help prime the eyes to improve the eyeshadow I’m about to apply, stay in place, and appear more pigmented. Then you want to grab a palette that consists of naturals hues with brown and black tones. I use the Icon Mini by Absolute New York because they have a range of perfect colors to help create a natural smoky eye. Just use the palette lightest color, which is “fluff,” and work your way to the darkest shade with is “charred.” Afterward, I grab a black eyeliner and light line my eyelids without creating a cat-eye wing. A cat-eye wasn’t popular around the 90’s era; it was a big focus on eyeshadow instead. Another trend now that wasn’t around in the 90’s era is faux lashes. I decided not to put on faux lashes and simply use black mascara to lengthen my natural lashes instead.
In this era, an “eye grunge” look was trending. Although this look is very soft, I like how the pencil eyeliner will help make the eye pop, so I use this since I opt out on wearing faux lashes. Now I did modernize the look slightly by doing what the go-to in this era is contouring. Afterward comes my favorite part creating that semi-dark 90’s vibe lip look. I use a matte liquid lipstick and then left space in the middle to input a nude color lipstick. To make it a real 90’s baby, I layer on a brown hue. Brown and Burgundy was the popular lip color around this time. Lastly, I finalize this look with setting powder.
