Ostrich feather fans, Satin long gloves, Back seemed stockings, Sequin pasties, Glitter on stage. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read all the items ? OK, I’ll wait for 1…2…3… You most likely guessed Burlesque and if you did that correct. If you haven’t been to a burlesque show, you should take the time and treat yourself to one.(or go on a date, better yet have a girls night out)
Now I had my fair share of Burlesque shows and the one I went to recently was by far the best one yet.Harvey’s Masquerade Soiree was way more than what I expected.
The event took place at Amarachi(189 Bridge St, Brooklyn, NY 11201)
Dumbo’s best-kept secret, as soon as I walked in my feet wanted to dance to the music (a mix of reggae, rhythm and blues and hip-hop) especially sleeping in for most of a Sunday it was refreshing to be out.The place was well-lit with colored lanterns, and the warm ambiance did not make me want to leave at the end of the night.I was obsessed with the cultural decorations and artwork dressed on the walls.
For V.I.P. guests, the extra money was well worth it because you got the best seats and, of course, there was something special pre-show.A masseuse dressed in all white gave a calming smile and made you forget you had worked in the morning.Later on, I sat with my friends and browsed through the menu.I didn’t want anything too heavy, so I ordered a dish from the small plates section. To my surprise it was filling, the jumbo shrimp were tender and fresh, and the fries were well seasoned( the wait wasn’t long at all).
Then the host came out Broadway Brassy and oh-em-gee her vocals will make you do a standing ovation. Her soul was screaming at the top of her lungs; seriously the girl has the talent yet again is burlesque, so she twisted any song and added sexual jokes which had the audience in tears. She announces the first comedian and finally the ravishing Genie Adagio
Came out and she is by far my favorite act of the night. The show continued with special appearances from
- Marlon Randolph
- Chad Plaines
- Kerryn Feehan
- Steve C King
who will make you laugh out your seat and the hot dancers Brown Cocaine Love and Apathy Angel were easy to the eyes.
In between shows, there was a fun raffle ticket announcement and an interactive game with the audience called “What You Poking.”Two ladies were selected to sit on stage with Mandarine Moon-Fly, who helped put the show together, and I got the pleasure of meeting at The Burlesque Showcase and Bazaar. The audience members were blindfolded and had to figure out if she was poking an elbow, neck or even a butt. The light-hearted kept the crowd going.
Rules of the game:You get 3 guesses and your the winner!
Prize of the game:A free drink.(I should of raised my hand to go on stage lol)
The audience members competed against each other; each one only guesses one right. So Mandarine Moon Fly asked the audience what should be the tie-breaker. The tie-breaker was a good old-fashion TWERK OFF !!!!
