Another year another Beautycon in New York. The tradition of BeautyCon is vendors showing their newest or best products to beauty lovers. The attendees also have the opportunity to live beauty tips. Other must-have at the con are star sightings, portable photo booths that are Instagram worthy and of course freebies. In my honest opinion, I wasn’t excited attending Beautycon 2019 as the years before and this is why.
As I learn from my first con, an attendee gets an exclusive deal if they purchase a “hauler package.” The hauler package attendee receives about two hundred dollars plus worth of products. Along with a bunch of preselected goodies, one has the opportunity to arrive early and scope out the vendors before the place gets crowded as I arrive at Jacob Javits Center where the location BeautyCon 2019 pick out for the venue. I head over to the “hauler package” section to pick up my bag full of goods. I immediately notice my bag seem a little lighter on time. Similar when you get a family size bag of chips when open you realize you paid for a bunch of air. Now with that image in your head, you know exactly how I felt receiving my “hauler bag” this year.
BeautyCon is a two-day event. So I didn’t notice what products were inside the bag until I went home. After a long day of receiving fake tattoos, following makeup brands on Instagram to receive free products waiting on line fill day, I came back to see what was in my bag. I couldn’t believe the products inside; I became more disappointment.
Please don’t read me off as ungrateful; I’m sure lucky to have the opportunity to be able to purchase the “hauler package.” However, when you receive a couple of years of premium products and enough makeup products to fill a vanity is a hard comparison to what I receive this year. The only premium brand makeup product in the bag, this year is LimeCrime. This year the tote-bag contains full-size home friendly products. The products were a multipurpose cleaner, a few skin care products, a ton of hair products and sadly about five to six makeup products which were mainly lipstick/gloss.
After spending the night in disappointment, I went to BeautyCon 2019 on the second day with a mission. I want a new contour kit and setting powder since I ran out of my stash. Luckily I found Rude Cosmetics booth. This vendor was selling their products for fifty percent off. The contour kit and setting powder came out to be no more than six bucks each. While I finish buying Rude Cosmetics, I overheard another attendee complaining about the rapper, Cardi B arriving late. When the celebrity did finally come almost three hours later, she discusses tips on how to be financially stable from her experience.
As much as I am a Cardi B fan in her voice “okurrr”; I believe BeautyCon invest a lot in her, including her sister, Hennesey. Having to pay a large payout to a big star did bring more people to the con. However, it came at the cost of the whole grand BeautyCon experience. It is leading me to question if I will attend next year.
