I’m excited to announce I’m an official business owner. I launch my WaterBruija business last week. Imagine me dancing around my apartment and scared at the same time when I made the announcement. However, the feedback has been positively overwhelming and I decided to share a bit of my creative process with you. So far I created soaps and candles and I want to add a different product to my collection. I decided to create lotion bars with the ever so moisturizing mango butter.

You’re probably thinking what is a lotion bar? It is simply a solid bar that is stored at room temperature. It is another form of skincare that has amazing properties for healing and protecting extremely dry skin, such as hands, elbows, knees, and heels. Also using a lotion barn is super easy. All you have to do is rub the bar directly on the desired area, or rub the bar on your hands and use your hands to apply the lotion to other parts of your body.

A lotion bar is based on three ingredients. You will need to use wax. People typically use beeswax. However, for my business, I’m trying to keep it vegan-friendly so I use soy wax. The second ingredient is the butter you can use shea butter, cocoa butter or my favorite mango butter. I’m currently in love with the organic unrefined mango butter from Mary Tylor Naturals. Lastly, you need oil, I prefer using coconut oil. Every other ingredient added is just extra.

Now comes the fun part making the lotion bar.

  1. Place the mango butter, coconut oil, and soy wax in a heavy bottom pot or double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can make one by placing a glass bowl or wide-mouth Mason jar in a small saucepan of water.
  2. Put the heat on medium. Then gently stir with a plastic spoon. Stirring regularly, until ingredients fully melt.
  3. This part is optional. I place about six drops of essential oil to make it smell great you can use your favorite. Make sure to not use synthetic oil. I also added herbs for decoration purposes.
  4. Once all ingredients melt, pour the liquid into a mold. I use a silicone base mold. The material makes the bars easier to pop off once it’s fully dry.- I also put a red jasper crystal in each one for healing properties.
  5. The last step is letting it dry overnight or to cool completely you can chill the bars in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to speed up the process.

Sidenote mango butter is a really soft butter to make sure it doesn’t crumble use more soy wax when putting the ingredients in the double boiler.
