Stylists know many secrets, and one of their most valued skills is how to accessorize an outfit in the right way. Of course, to learn this closely guard knowledge, you could hire your own personal stylist. However, I am prepared to part with a few grains of wisdom to help you out below. Your welcome ;).

Footwear doesn’t have to hurt.

The right footwear can absolutely make an outfit. You will see this in fashion shoots and shop displays all the time. However, it would help if you also remembered that mannequins (and models, for the most part) don’t wear them on a normal day. That’s right, and they don’t have to go to the office, run errands, grab a sandwich or get the bus home.

What does this mean? Well, it means that before you even consider putting your feet into the most beautiful of torture chambers, you need to think about your well being and comfort as well. With that in mind, if you want drama, why not choose flatform souls, knee or over the knee boots, chunky heels, or even footwear in bright colors for the day?

Of course, what you wear in the evening is a whole different matter. If you feel the need for skyscraper stilettos or caged ankle boots, why not go for it? Just be sure to invest in an uber rather than walk home!

A little edge ever did any harm.

When accessorizing, I like to add in a little edge. Take body modifications like tattoos and piercing, for instance. I think they can really add a little extra something to an outfit.

Of course, it is worth noting that if you opt for the permanent kinds, there will be a wait. The wait will be in between when you get the mod done and show it off fully. Indeed, even a basic piercing like the top of the ear will take a few weeks to heal correctly. In fact, you can read about helix piercing healing time and visit Urban Body Jewelry for even more info on this subject before you make your decision. If I’ve whetted your appetite, that is?

However, it’s worth noting that you can get a similar look without getting a permanent tattoo or piercing. In fact, you will find plenty of fake piercing options for the helix and areas like the septum online. You can even get temporary tattoos that look a lot like the real thing now. Of course, both options are ideal if you like the idea of body modification. But you will want to try it out before you commit in the long term. Or you can wear statement jewelry like the rose quartz necklace in the picture.

Check you nails

All too often, when it comes to accessorizing, people spend a fortune on necklaces, rings, bags, and shoes, only to forget another vitally important part of their look – their nails. Yes, that is right. If you want a look that is fully pulled together, it’s pretty important that as well as the rest of your outfit that your nails are on point too.

That is not to say that you have to have acrylic or gels, or even a bright polish if you don’t want to. Just be sure they are trimmed and clean, and make sure that the same goes for your toes too! Then if you do happen to pick out open sandals for your outfit or throw on a few rings for some drama, you won’t need to worry.

Mix your materials

Finally, a smart insider tip from stylists is to avoid the overly matched look. What this means is instead of choosing a set of jewelry in all the same metal or picking shoes that are the same colors and material as your handbag, it’s best to mix things up a bit.

Of course, there is a right way and a wrong way of mixing materials. First of all, you need to be careful when it comes to mixing patterns. In fact, usually, only the most experienced stylists can make a dog’s tooth worth a spot or stripe, so it’s best to steer clear of this altogether.

Next, be careful when mixing textures. For this to work properly, you need to pick material at the opposite end of the spectrum. For example, pairing a sleek PVC skirt with a fluffy jumper or coat.

Finally, when it comes to mixing colors, remember to choose a pallet and stick to it. Indeed, there are all sorts of rules for using different tones side by side. Although, as you get more experience with accessorizing, you can bend or even break these rules from time to time.
