For all my dark hair women in the world who wants colorful hair without the damage, I feel you. I’m also one who loves to reinvent herself. For goodness sake, I’ve been dying my hair every birthday since elementary school(imagine a pre-teen bleach blonde me, oh the pictures are terrifying). Last year I told myself to take a break from the harsh chemicals of bleaching. However, the itch of having colorful hair keeps coming back. Then I came across Mofajang Hair Wax and let me tell you it made me a believer.

I never knew there was an alternative to hair dye other than color hair spray. Which usually involves the color to spread unevenly across the hair, smells horrific and tends to stain my clothing, so it’s a hard pass. Then I came across Mofajang Hair Wax. Seeing videos of it working effortlessly on other brunettes, and it made me want to try.

I try to check my local beauty supply store, but it didn’t carry the hair wax. I decided to go with my back up plan and purchase it on eBay. As I was clicking on different colors, my roommate looked over and said you should try blue or violet. My response is I’ll try both. It didn’t take long for me to convince her to try coloring her hair with me. Therefore, we plan to make our colorful hair debut for the World Pride Parade in New York.

When I receive the hair wax, I was a bit hesitant if it will work. The packaging came in what appears to be Chinese, and I did try it the day before going to the Pride Parade. I did a bit more research to see how the product should work. From what I found online, the hair should be at least eighty percent dry before application. The other instructions were easy. It merely said section the hair where you want the wax color to show and apply. Now it was time to put the easy instructions to the test.

As my roommate and I took the blue and violet hair wax out of the packaging, the product itself came in a 120g round container. The container itself came with English instructions which are similar to what I found online. Some of the ingredients include:

  • Water
  • Beeswax
  • Tea extract
  • Castor oil
  • Copernicia cerifera wax
  • Titanium dioxide

My roommate and I thought it would be cool to mix the colors making it unique. After mixing the colors in a dye bowl, it is hard to spread the wax with a brush. So we use vinyl gloves to prevent the wax from transferring onto our hands. We instantly saw a vibrant, colorful hair change. Minutes later it was spread evenly across the hair.

A few positives it doesn’t smell like bleach or poop, which is always great in my book. The color didn’t stain my clothes. However, I did stay away from white because I was too scared to wear it. The color is temporary; it started slowly fading after the third day. This a bonus for me since I can’t have colorful hair in my corporate job.

A few cons it left my hair slightly stiff, but it was still manageable to style. Place a towel over your pillow if you don’t want it to stain. It took me about three washes for it to come off. Once my hair was dry, I notice I miss a couple of spots.
